PhotoShop

Fri Jul 2, 2004, 5:48 PM
PhotoShop it seems, unless it is specifically mentioned that a person used PhotoShop, is robbing photography of it's truth. A person who is a terrible photographer can take the worst picture and make it into a stunning piece of eye candy that in all reality doesn't exist until they manipulate the coloring and apply filters, ect...you can do everything in Photoshop. I believe that photography is about capturing the natural beauty in an object, taking things from a different perspective, and capturing the moment. When one distorts a pictures coloring, that wasn't the way it was. It isn't truthful somehow to me. If one manipulates the photo simply for the art of manipulation (because there is indeed art in it) and mentions specifically that they did manipulate it, then that seems the correct thing (in my opinion) to do. black and white conversions, along with cropping, have always been possible and don't change the subject. but not layering, changing colors, adding color, ect. when the subject is changed, i think that is the heart of the problem.

In your opinion, do you think it is right or wrong to use photoshop in such a way as to be manipulative and call it photography?
